Today, as leaders contend with the destructive power of climate change and the risks posed by its runaway effects, doing nothing is not an option. Berkeley Haas is dedicated to preparing students not just for careers in sustainability but to bring a sustainability lens to every role, function, and decision within their organizations.
This year, Haas launched the Michaels Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business to empower new leaders to create the economic and social transition to a climate resilient, low-carbon, and equitable future. The certificate was started with a $1 million gift from Doris and Charlie Michaels, BS 78.

Business and Labor Rights in Global Supply Chains
Ten graduating FTMBA students completed the coursework and earned the certificate in 2021. Here are a few of them.
Jeff Sharp, MBA 21
Government Operations Associate, Joby Aviation
I came from 12 years in the military and was interested in pivoting into sustainable transportation and future mobility. The sustainability certificate let me put a clear marker of my interest in solving one of the world’s biggest problems on my resume. As someone with only military experience, that branding is helpful.
Luisa Bisinoto, MBA 21
Associate, McKinsey & Company
This certificate gave me the tools and perspective necessary to be a leader of change in a business environment that needs to do better by our planet and its resources. Energy & Environmental Markets was among the top classes of the MBA for me as it has given me technical knowledge that I’ll surely need to be proficient in this area of interest.
Alex Russomagno, MBA 21
Manager, Strategic Planning & Analysis, Apeel Sciences
My career before Haas was centered around finance, banking, and investing, but I always felt a calling toward food and sustainable business. Without any prior industry experience, this certificate enabled me to signal to future employers that I was passionate about this space and intentional about pivoting to a career in sustainable agriculture.
